QuickDraw GX v1.1.3 Installation Notes

These notes contain installation information about the QuickDraw GX v1.1.1 build. PLEASE read and follow the installation instructions.


Installing QuickDraw GX v1.1.3:

QuickDraw GX v1.1 can only be installed onto a System running 7.5.x

Please use the following instructions when installing QuickDraw GX v1.1.3. Otherwise you will not be happy:

1) If you have installed the "GX Graphics (debug)" extension from an earlier release of QuickDraw GX, drag it from the "Extensions" folder to the trash. You will not be able to empty the trash until you reboot.

2) If you are installing QuickDraw GX v1.1.3 onto a previous release of GX, it is a good idea to use the "Custom Install" option to make sure all of the pieces are replaced with new ones.  Or, use the "Custom Remove" option before using the "Easy Install" option.

3)  With GX 1.1.1, there were a few reports of causing the system to crash.  The symptoms were that, right after installing GX 1.1.1, the machine would freeze right before the Finder was about to launch.  This problem was fixed in the GX installer script included with GX v1.1.2 and v1.1.3.


New Interfaces and Libraries:

There was an new set of GX interfaces and libraries in the SDK#4.  The GX interfaces (which are part of the Universal Interfaces, version 2.1) have been renamed, consolideted, and improved since the older interfaces found on GX 1.0 SDK.  The interfaces also include the new API calls which were added in GX 1.1.1.  The library files have also been updated to use the new GX interfaces.

The GX Library code have also been edited to use the new GX interfaces and libraries.  Please see the "GX Libs & Tools - Read Me" for more information of the chamges.


New and Revised Sample Code:

There are a few new samples and several of the old samples have be edited to use the new GX interfaces and libraries.  Please see the readmes in the Sample Code folder for more information of the changes.

NOTE: If you have used the sample LaserWriter IIsc driver from the GX v1.0.1 SDK or the Mac OS SDK, you are encouraged to see the updated sample on this CD for important changes. Here's the path to the sample:

Also, due to time constraints, we did not have time to recompile all the code samples on this CD using the latest version of the interfaces and libraries.  Nevertheless, the "QuickDraw GX shell" sample (which can be found at the path :Programming Stuff:Sample Code:General QDGX App Samples:QuickDraw GX Shell Ä:) has been re-built successfully using Think, MPW and Metrowerks.
