WELCOME TO APPLE GUIDE 2.0! This Read Me file documents new features and bug fixes from previous versions of Apple Guide. It also contains late breaking information about the product. NEW FEATURES IN APPLE GUIDE 2.0 € System 7.0 and 7.1 Support. € Performance Improvements. € Unlimited Mix-ins. The previous limitation of seven mix-ins has been removed. The number of mix-ins is only limited to the amount of memory. € Added the ability to option-click on a panel to copy a picture of that panel to the clipboard. € Sounds are now played asynchronously. FIXES FROM PREVIOUS VERSIONS OF APPLE GUIDE € Coach marks now are displayed in modal dialogs. € Entire topic areas that were being eliminated when trying to add a mix-in has been fixed. € Fixed problem of some applications building their menus causing Apple Guide to not display a guide file item for that application even if one exists in the application¹s folder. IMPORTANT DEVELOPER NOTE If you are installing versions of Apple Guide with your application(s), please make sure you check the version of Apple Guide already on the system and do not replace versions later than 2.0 with a 2.0 version you are installing. Apple Guide 2.1 will be released later this year to support OpenDoc. It would not be very good if a user had Apple Guide 2.1 on their system, and installation of your application replaced it with Apple Guide 2.0. INSTALLATION € Installation of Apple Guide 2.0 on System 7.5 or later systems. Simply drag the 'Apple Guide' extension into your System Folder:Extensions folder. € Installation of Apple Guide 2.0 on pre-System 7.5 systems involves the installation of the following pieces: Apple Guide, '7.0/7.1 Apple Guide Enabler', and AppleScript in the System Folder:Extensions folder. € Installation of Apple Guide 2.0 on System 7.1.2 PowerPC based Macintosh models will also require the presence of 'AppleScriptLib' in the System Folder:Extensions folder. KNOWN BUGS € There is a known bug on PowerBook 520's and 540's that causes a crash when the screen dims. This is an incompatibility between System 7.1.1 (namely System 7 Pro) and the 7.0/7.1 Apple Guide Enabler. The work around is to not let the screen dim. There are no problems with letting the PowerBook go to sleep. The problem only occurs with System 7.1.1. It does not occur on System 7.1, System 7.5, and System 7.5.1. € There is problem running the Macintosh Guide and coaching the non scriptable Finder under 7.0/7.1 systems. This incompatibility will only occur if someone intentionally tries to use this Guide File under these conditions. Macintosh Guide is only for System 7.5 and greater. € Under System 7.0/7.1 removal of AppleScript extension on 68K based Macintosh¹s can cause problems for Guides that contain AppleScripts. Any sequence which tries to execute an AppleScript, with the AppleScript extension missing will result in a crash. A later version Apple Guide will properly report the absence of AppleScript, and not crash. Copyright © 1995 Apple Computer, Inc.
